Curing and Protection. The Contractor shall take adequate measures to ensure that the concrete shall be kept damp continuously for a minimum of three (3) days after casting or for such other time as the Engineer may direct. After removal of this covering (layer of sacking, canvas, Hessian, straw mats or similar absorbent material or a layer of sand), the concrete shall then be sprayed with water for minimum period of a further fourteen (14) days. All concrete liable to be affected by running water or wave action shall be adequately protected from damage during the setting period and all temporary protection works shall be to the satisfaction of the Engineer.

Curing and Protection. Protect the finished subgrade against drying for 72 hours after compaction by spraying with water to maintain a continuous moist condition. The Contractor may apply an asphalt prime coat immediately after trimming instead of keeping the finished surface moist with water. If this option is chosen, apply SS-1H or CSS-1H at the rate of 0.22 gallons per square yard to achieve a minimum of 0.13 gallons per square yard residue. Multiple light applications may be necessary to obtain the specified rate of application without run-off. Avoid placing construction loads or operating equipment until the treated subgrade has cured and can withstand the loads without damaging the subgrade. If the subgrade deforms under the construction loads and cannot return back to its original condition, or if it deflects more than 1 inch, allow the subgrade additional curing time before operating equipment on the subgrade. Repair any damaged subgrade. Cover the finished treated subgrade with surfacing before it is subjected to freezing. If the finished treated subgrade is subjected to freezing, the Engineer will determine when the subgrade needs to be reworked. KDOT will not pay for the replacement and refinishing of the treated subgrade if the material loses the required stability, density or finish before the next course is placed.

Curing and Protection. Care must be taken that no concrete is allowed to become prematurely dry and the fresh concrete must be carefully protected within two hours of placing from rain, sun and wind by means of hessian sacking, polythene sheeting, or other approved means. This protective layer and the concrete itself must be kept continuously wet for at least seven days after the concrete has been placed. The Contractor will be required to provide complete coverage of all fresh concrete for a period of 7 days. Hessian or polythene sheeting shall be in the maximum widths obtainable and shall be secured against wind. The Contractor will not be permitted to use old cement bags, hessian or other material in small pieces. Concrete in foundations and other underground work shall be protected from admixture with falling earth during and after placing. Traffic or loading must not be allowed on the concrete until the concrete is sufficiently matured, and in no case shall traffic or loading be of such magnitude as to cause deflection or other movement in the formwork or damage to the concrete members. Where directed by the Engineer props may be required to be left in position under slabs and other members for greater periods than those specified hereafter.

  • Safety and Protection 8.18.1 The Contractor shall be responsible for initiating, maintaining and supervising all safety precautions and programs in connection with the Work. The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions for the safety of, and shall provide the necessary protection to prevent damage, injury or loss to:

  • ENVIRONMENT, SAFETY AND HEALTH PROTECTION (a) Seller shall perform this Agreement in a manner that ensures adequate protection for workers, the public, and the environment, and shall be accountable for actions of itself and its lower-tier subcontractors, agents and employees.
