Cultural Exchange. One of the lasting benefits of the partnership has been a greater awareness and growth of respect for Japanese culture among the visiting faculty. For many faculty who have attended, the conference was their first visit to Japan. Xxxx Xxxxxxx writes that in addition to the conference, he enjoyed the many opportunities for visiting some of the many cultural treasure of Kyoto. “It is a beautiful city and our hosts were determined that we would experience it to the fullest.” Xxxxx Xxxxx was honored to co-present with a master of Haiku poetry during her conference presentation: “This partnership gave me a greater understanding and appreciation of this genre of poetry and I have incorporated this into the teaching of my language arts courses. In addition, I gained greater knowledge and appreciation for the Japanese people and culture.” Scholarly Exchange. In 2006, a new exchange format was arranged to provide opportunities for scholarly exchange on a slightly longer basis. Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxx Xxxx was the first scholar to make the trip from Kyoto to Honolulu, followed the next year by Xxxxxx XxXxxx who spent three invaluable weeks at Bukkyo in June 2007 where he met with faculty, participated in classes, and visited schools. A special issue of Educational Perspectives on the theme of teaching English in Japan is one of the outcomes of that visit. Later visitors of the scholar exchange program have included Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxx in 2008 and Xxxx Xxxxxxxx in 2009. This year, 2010, Sunao Goto is a visiting professor in the Department of Educational Foundations at UHM-XXX. Xxxx Xxxxxxxx reported that he visited three elementary schools and an adult school. These visits were arranged by faculty at Bukkyo and allowed him to talk with teachers and administrators, as well as visit classrooms. He was interested in documenting the developmental trajectory of teachers in Japan in comparison to teachers in Hawaii. His conversations with school staff in Kyoto were productive in gathering records that helped him explore this issue. The UHM-XXX faculty feel that the partnership with Bukkyo has been helpful in promoting scholarly conversations, several of which have produced fruitful collaborative inquiries. Cultural Exchange. Four students from Xavier College in Melbourne, Xxxx Xxxxxx, Xxx Xxxxxxxx, Xxxxxx XxXxxxxx and Xxxxx Xxxxxx along with teacher, Xx Xxxxx Xxxxxxx (left) visited the Xxxxxx Diocese recently as part of a cultural exchange program that has existed for seventeen years between St Mary's College, Broome and Xavier College & Genazzano FCJ College in Melbourne. Since its inception two hundred & seventy two students have participated in the program which provides an opportunity for students from both Broome and Melbourne to learn about and have a greater understanding of each others cultures. Whilst in Broome the students met up with Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx. Excellent effort for Caritas Students of Casimir Catholic College, Marrickville NSW, presented a $13,000 cheque to Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx acting on behalf of Caritas Australia. School News B i l l i l u n a - K u r u r r u n g k u Crafty ways at Kururrungku By Xxx Xxxxxx A new ‘Adult Education/TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)’ Support Teacher, Xxxx Xxxxx, arrived in Billiluna in week three last term. When Xxxx’s dyes and art materials arrived every one was in for a great time dyeing and painting T-shirts and silk scarves, making xxxx prints, learning fancy embroidery stitches and silk screening designs on the dyed t-shirts. Some of the work will be on sale at the CEO in Broome and the money raised will be used for the school camp trips to Canberra and Broome. The adults also have had several workshops on “toothbrush” rugs and dyeing t-shirts. Xxxx will be offering a workshop on glass bead making next term. Both students and parents have been engrossed in these creative activities.

On the occasion of the 7th International Day of Yoga in 2021, the Embassy along with Italian MoFA officials participated in a first ever yoga session organized in the MoFA (Farnesina) premises.
