Cultural Competency Training. Contractor shall provide cultural competency, sensitivity, or diversity training for staff, Network Providers and First Tier, Downstream and Related Entities with direct Enrollee interaction. The training shall cover information about the identified cultural groups in the Contractor’s Service Areas, such as the groups’ beliefs about illness and health; methods of interacting with providers and the health care structure; and, language and literacy needs including limited English proficiency; and diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Transitions Working Group (TWG) The TWG was mandated to provide support, advice and recommendations on matters related to Anishinabek student transitions, including enhancing coordination and support arrangements for Anishinabek student transitions that include: Entering schools for the first time; Moving between schools; Moving between the Anishinabek Education System (AES) and provincially-funded schools; Elementary to secondary transitions; and Transitioning to post-secondary, apprenticeships, training and employment, and other opportunities. Draft Protocol Since October 2018, the TWG has met consistently every 4 weeks developing its work plan, and reviewing existing guidelines, resources and tools (developed by various organizations including school boards, Indigenous organizations and other governments) that guide Indigenous student transitions. Leveraging these materials, the TWG developed a draft protocol to guide and support Anishinabek Education System student transitions in Ontario. The development and refinement of the draft protocol was also informed by the feedback received at the 2019 and 2020 Niigaan Gdizhaami Forums. The student transition protocol is in the final stages of review and will aim to build capacity within Participating First Nations and Ontario District School Boards over the course of the 2020-21 academic year. 5 Student Transitions Priorities:

Cultural Competency Training a. After the quarterly review of data, complaints and incident reports, if any, the District may suggest that deputies serving the District could benefit from cultural competency training. If so suggested, the District will provide such training. The training will be conducted on paid District time and the curriculum may be reviewed by the ACSO prior to the training being offered.

The training shall promote access and the delivery of services in a culturally competent manner to all Members, regardless of race, color, national origin, creed, ancestry, religion, language, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, health status, physical or mental disability, or identification with any other persons or groups defined in Penal Code 422.56. The training shall cover information about the identified cultural groups in the Contractor’s Service Areas, such as the groups’ beliefs about illness and health; methods of interacting with providers and the health care structure; traditional home remedies that may impact what the provider is trying to do to treat the patient; and, language and literacy needs.

The training shall promote access and the delivery of services in a culturally competent manner to all Members, regardless of race, color, national origin, creed, ancestry, religion, language, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, health status, physical or mental disability, or identification with any other persons or groups defined in Penal Code 422.56. Contractor shall provide orientation and training on cultural competency to staff and providers serving Medi-Cal Members. The training objectives shall include teaching participants an enhanced awareness of cultural competency imperatives and issues related to improving access and quality of care for Medi-Cal Members. The orientation program will provide a forum for staff and providers to reflect on their own cultures and values and how they relate to delivery of services to those with differing beliefs and practices.
Cultural Competency Training. A. For the Student Facilitation Program, the District will retain the services of a qualified facilitator who will work with all District students in grades 9-12. The students will, with the assistance of the facilitator, identify racial issues and biases in the high school and work with the District to develop a plan to address the identified issues and biases. Included in this program will be a training component on the District’s non-discrimination and harassment policies and procedures. The District will then develop a student organization at Western Brown High School who will ratify and facilitate the implementation of the District’s plan. When creating the student organization, the District will put forth diligent and reasonable effort to encourage representatives from all student racial constituencies to participate in the student organization.
