Court Appearance Leave Without Pay. An employee may request and shall be granted leave without pay for the time required to make an appearance as a plaintiff or defendant in a civil or criminal court proceeding that is not connected with the employee’s officially assigned duties. When any employee represents an outside business interest and/or acts as an independent expert, he/she shall be granted accrued vacation and/or compensatory leave for appearance before a court, legislative committee or judicial or quasi-judicial body as a witness in response to a subpoena or other direction by proper authority for matters other than the employee’s officially assigned duties. Leave without pay may be granted, if requested. The employee may keep any money paid in connection with the appearance.
