The Parties shall agree to cooperate in the field of science and technology with the aim of promoting a lasting working relationship between their scientific communities and exchanging information and know-how regarding science and technology between the regions.

Cooperation in science and technology. ARTICLE 374 The Parties shall develop and strengthen their scientific and technological cooperation in order to contribute both to scientific development itself, and to reinforce their scientific potential for contributing to the resolution of national and global challenges. The Parties shall endeavour to contribute to progress in acquiring scientific and technological knowledge relevant to sustainable economic development, by strengthening their research capacities and human potential. The sharing and pooling of scientific knowledge will contribute to the competitiveness of the Parties, by increasing the ability of their economies to generate and use knowledge to commercialise new products and services. In accordance with their mutual interest and the aims of their policies on science, the Contracting Parties undertake to promote cooperation in science and tech- nology aimed in particular at: — encouraging exchanges of Community and Central American scientists, — establishing closer links between their scientific and technological communities, with particular reference to existing research centres on both sides, — promoting mutually beneficial transfers of technology, — implementing measures with a view to achieving the goals of research programmes that are of interest to both regions, — building up the research capacity of the Central American countries, promoting projects involving scientific and technical research centres and stimu- lating technical and applied research, — creating opportunities for economic, industrial and trade cooperation.
