CONSTRUCTION CONSIDERATIONS. These repeat much of what has been said above but with some additional information. • That only very low ground pressure vehicles can be used. On much of the intact area of bog, bog mats are likely to be required. • Peat depth is between 2 and 8m. • That over the entire area there is likely to be a layer of desiccated and free draining peat measuring between 250 and 500mms below ground level. When constructing bunds this layer needs to be dug out and replaced with good ‘clay like’ peat. • That there will be cracks associated with peat workings, drains, cut faces, tile drains and tree growth which can extend below ground level to a depth equivalent of the feature. These must be blocked to prevent them from acting as water flow paths. • That bunding/dam building should be carried out using in situ peat. Disturbance of peat is to be restricted to the minimum area necessary in order to achieve the desired restoration. • Before a bund is constructed, existing vegetation and degraded peat to be scooped out along a proposed bund line down to the good wetted clay like peat layer beneath. Wetted clay like peat to be used to construct the bund from an adjacent borrow pit. The bund to be built to 150mm above ground level before turf/brash is laid on top. • Before a dam is constructed across a ditch or where a bund crosses a ditch, existing vegetation and degraded peat to be scooped out of the ditch and from 1m either side of the dam location. Wetted clay like peat to be used to construct the grip block/dam from an adjacent borrow pit. Grip block/dam to be completed to 150mm above ground level and topped with in situ vegetation. • That good wet peat (clay like deep peat that has not dried out) should be used to construct bunds and that there should be a wet peat- wet peat contact between underlying peat and the newly constructed bunds to prevent water seepage. Where bunds/dams or peat plugs are to be constructed that all vegetation and desiccated poor peat is removed first before good peat is laid on top. Bunds should not have layers of vegetation or desiccated, dried out peat within them. • The bunds will act as water control structures and therefore need to be as level as possible between cut offs. Cell bunding needs to be constructed such that an even layer of water can be retained across the cell. Cells can be built a descending series to an obvious low point where excess water can escape • That trees/tree roots should be removed from the line of bunds and dispose...

  • Construction Cost Estimate At 50% completion of the contract documents, the design team will present and submit copies of the project plans and manual. The Construction Administrator will prepare and issue the fourth of five construction cost estimates. The estimate shall be derived from actual takeoffs, subcontractor and vendor input, and material and labor cost data. All quantitative systems information shall be provided in detail.
