Compassionate Leave Bank. The compassionate leave bank exists so employees may donate payout of sick leave days for use by eligible employees who need extended time off due to a catastrophic, serious health condition of a member of the employee's immediate family, residing within the employee's household, for whom the employee is the primary caregiver. Immediate family shall be defined as husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, first cousin, niece, nephew, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepbrother, stepsister, stepson, stepdaughter, half brother or half sister. The employee must exhaust all applicable paid leave prior to application to the compassionate leave bank. Funds generated from the payout of donated sick leave shall be deposited into the compassionate leave bank.

Compassionate Leave Bank. The Parties agree to establish Compassionate Leave Bank (Bank). The Bank shall operate in strict compliance with the language of this article. The Compassionate Leave Bank (Bank) provides benefits equivalent to medical leave for participants who experience personal injury or illness, including illness caused by or related to pregnancy or maternity (herein referred to as a “Qualified Illness”) and are for such reason unable to perform the essential functions of their assigned position. It is to be used only after the expiration of all other forms of paid leave such as, but not limited to, Long-Term Medical, Personal Time Off, Floating Holiday Hours, Xxxxx Days, and Compensatory Time. The Human Resources Division will administer the Bank and will keep the only official records of all hours in the Bank and all hours granted to and used by participants. The plan year for the Bank commences January 1st of each year. The Human Resources Division Director will review requests for benefits and will be solely responsible for determining the eligibility of a participant to receive benefits pursuant to this article.
Compassionate Leave Bank. A unit member may use personal days to build a compassionate leave bank containing a maximum of ten (10) days. The use of compassionate days is restricted to illness in the family or family emergencies. Once banked, single compassionate leave days may be used by the unit member upon request. Unit members who desire to use two (2) or more compassionate leave days in succession, or who wish to use compassionate leave days in tandem with personal days, must secure the approval of the superintendent.

A Teacher member of the Sick Leave Bank who has exhausted his or her personal leave and sick leave days shall be eligible to apply to the committee for an extension of sick leave benefits. Sick bank days shall not be granted beyond the period when a Teacher would or could be eligible to receive benefits of the School Corporation’s long- term disability program. Unused days in the Sick Leave Bank shall be carried forward to the following year.

  • Leave Bank The Employer agrees to begin exploration of creating and maintaining an account or mechanism to permit donation of Paid Time Off hours from members of the bargaining unit to bargaining unit employees who are on family or medical leave and who have exhausted or are projected to exhaust their accrued leave before they are able to return to work.

  • Funeral and Bereavement Leave 19.01 In the event of death in the immediate family of an employee, the employee will be granted leave of absence with pay, with consideration given to travel time for attending the funeral. The length of absence shall be up to three (3) days at the discretion of the Employer. The term ‘immediate family’ shall mean: spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, step-mother, step-father, step-son, step-daughter, step-brother, step-sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, and grandchildren, or any relative living in the household of the employee.   • BEREAVEMENT/TANGIHANGA LEAVE 15.1 The employer shall approve special bereavement leave on pay for an employee to discharge any obligation and/or to pay respects to a deceased person with whom the employee has had a close association. Such obligations may exist because of blood or family ties or because of particular cultural requirements such as attendance at all or part of a Tangihanga (or its equivalent). The length of time off shall be at the discretion of the employer.
