Classified Employee. For the purpose of this Contract, the term “classified employee” shall include all employees represented by the Association in the bargaining unit.
Classified Employee. A classified employee shall be an employee who holds a position that is fifty percent (50%) or more of full time, is employed on a monthly basis, is paid the appropriate wage rate for the type of work performed a majority of the time. Except for project positions, non-permanent positions or part-time hourly positions, appointments are considered permanent with no specific end date. However, nothing in this Article precludes the Employer from initiating a layoff in accordance with Article 18 of this Agreement. Such employee is entitled to accrue the full benefits and conditions of this Agreement.

Classified Employee. For benefits purposes, the term “classified employee” when hereinafter used in this Agreement shall be deemed to refer to Campus Safety employees whose normal work week is thirty (30) or more a week. All Campus Safety employees other than classified employees are hereinafter referred to as non-classified employees for benefit purposes only.

COURT DUTY - the day or part of a day when an employee, in response to a subpoena, summons, or by direction of proper authority is required to appear as a witness on official State business, or in response to a subpoena as a witness in a criminal or civil action. DEMOTION - the change of an employee from one pay grade to another pay grade for which a lower maximum rate of pay is provided. DEPARTMENT - a major unit of State government, usually headed by a Commissioner, which may be a component of an agency or an independent unit of State government. DIVISION - a component of an agency headed by a Director. EDUCATIONAL LEAVE - absence from duty for a formal course of study. EMPLOYEE - any individual employed by the State on a permanent or limited status basis as well as an individual whose work has ceased as a result of, or in connection with, any current labor dispute or unfair labor practice. ESSENTIAL SERVICES - services (1) necessary to provide for health and welfare of residents and inmates of State institutions, or (2) which must be continued in order to ensure the safety and welfare of the residents and property of the State and the convenience of the public. EXAMINATION - all the tests including, but not limited to, written tests, ratings of training and experience, oral boards, performance tests, probationary periods and any authorized extensions thereof. EXEMPTED SERVICE POSITIONS - positions excluded from the classified service by statute. GEOGRAPHIC AREA - the area within a thirty-five (35) mile radius of an employee’s regular duty station.
