Class Description. This basic Patrol Rifle Operator Course is a three-day course designed for patrol officers or others who will or may have access to a patrol rifle for use during their tour of duty. The class will cover officer liability, safety, loading, unloading, and cruiser ready, nomenclature and cleaning of the rifle, mechanical zero and precision zero, shooting fundamentals, rifle deployment, shooting positions, use of cover and concealment, transition drills, flashlight use, and shooting skills. Live fire drills will include: Stationary target/shooter; stationary target/moving shooter; deploying from the vehicle; decisional shooting courses; firing from cover; multiple target drills; and dim light courses. While Officers coming out of a basic academy have a familiarity with the basic patrol rifle (8 hours) it does not certify them to carry this weapon platform on duty this class will.
