Certification of Illness. 9 a. Sick leave of four (4) consecutive working days or less may be 10 permitted without requiring the employee to submit a licensed 11 physician's certification of sickness or illness provided the Chief 12 has other satisfactory evidence of bona fide illness. The granting 13 of sick leave for not more than four (4) days without the necessity 14 of a licensed physician's certification is in all cases discretionary 15 with the Chief and shall be subject to such verification as he or she 16 sees fit to require.

Human Resources may require a healthcare provider statement for any number of days under six (6), or require second opinion. Should the absence period for personal illness extend for twenty (20) or more consecutive school days, the teacher is required, before returning to his/her duty, to file with the Human Resources a statement from healthcare provider, certifying that he/she is able to resume his/her duties.

In the event the usage of sick leave establishes an objectively clear pattern of misuse, the employee shall be put on notice and the time restrictions of this section shall be waived for future requirement of a health care provider’s approval for an employee to return to work for absences that fall within the pattern of misuse.
