Certification and Recertification. Regular Employees who are required to be certified in their jobs shall be reimbursed for the fees paid for exams and fees paid for recertification, to maintain their status, and will be granted leave of absence without loss of pay to take the exam. If taking a course is a precondition to take the exam and/or to be certified, the Employer will pay for the course fees and the Employee will be granted leave of absence without loss of pay to attend the course.

Certification and Recertification. If an employee attends education or upgrading courses related to employment at the request of the Employer, the Employer shall cover fees and costs incurred and the employee shall suffer no loss of pay. Certification will be based on state codes in effect and recognized by the State of Minnesota. In those instances where there is more than one certifying agency, the Employer shall only be responsible for the expenses associated with books and/or training associated with the Employer’s selection. However, the Employer shall pay the actual examination fee for all employees. If the State of Minnesota adopts a new code and the certification of the employee does not match the code, the employee, as a condition of continued employment, shall attain certification by the agency matching the adopted code within one (1) year of adoption. The Employer shall provide the textbooks and/or training to assist the employee to pass the certification examination. The Employer shall also pay the actual examination fee.
Certification and Recertification. To provide an opportunity for a nurse to advance her professional nursing practice, the Hospital agrees to reimburse the nurse for fees associated with one (1) professional certification examination. The certification exam must be in a practice area relevant to Meriter Hospital and certification must be obtained. The nurse is required to submit copies of the certification, including the length of the certification period, to the Nursing Education and Human Resources Development Departments. Upon documented successful certification, the nurse will be reimbursed for the examination fee. (See Section 4 A) At the time of successful certification or recertification the nurse will be provided up to a maximum of $450.00 to be used to support expenses related to recertification initiatives including, but not limited to, continuing education and membership in the respective professional certifying organization. This provision will be available throughout the duration of the certification period. If the entire $450.00 maximum has not been utilized during the certification period the balance will not be carried over into the next certification period. Certifications eligible for this benefit are listed in Appendix H. Other professional certifying organizations may be added at the request of an employee and upon approval of management. Such approval will not be unreasonably denied. This benefit provided for certification and recertification does not impact unit specific allocated education funds described in Section 3.

Certification and Recertification. Employees are required to take certification and recertification locally wherever possible. Upon successful completion, the Employer shall pay for the cost of certification and recertification courses attended by employees and approved by the Employer, such payment to include course materials and registration fees. Employees who are not scheduled to work shall be paid a training wage of twelve dollars ($12) per hour or equivalent to the BC minimum hourly wage, whichever is the greater, and limited only to the time involved in certification/recertification. Such hours will not include travel time or trigger any overtime. Travel costs will be paid if the recertification opportunity is not available in Quesnel. Further the Employer agrees to make staff shift arrangements to ensure that the employee does not lose any pay. All other training will be given due consideration on an as requested basis, as long as the request is consistent with the Employer’s corporate needs.
