CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING. 29.0l General The parties recognize that in order to maintain and enhance professional expertise, employees, from time to time, need to have an opportunity to attend or participate in career development activities described in this Article.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING. 34.1 The Employer will encourage interested employees to develop career objectives and plans. These development plans should be jointly determined by the Employer and employee and periodically revised to reflect changing objectives and opportunities. The Employer will support training activities, which will enhance the individual's job performance now, and/or in the future, as well as help employees achieve career aspirations within the Society Office. Employees wishing to enroll in courses of study, which will better qualify themselves to perform their job, and intending to ask the Employer to refund the cost of such course(s), must make application to the Employer prior to taking the course(s). If the Employer agrees that the course(s) would be beneficial both to the Employer and the employee, then the full cost of tuition for the courses will be borne by the Employer upon satisfactory course completion and evidence of a passing grade where applicable. It is understood that there may be occasions when the Employer may pay less than the full cost of the course(s) if the course(s) are not taken solely for the purpose of self-improvement on the job. The Society will reimburse the employee for the costs of professional fees and association memberships where these are a job requirement.

Unit members may apply for educational reimbursement or release time to attend educational or training courses through outside educational institutions and/or online courses for the purpose of improving job skills in their current position, or to prepare them for other positions within the Office. Applications for a fiscal year must be submitted 15 working days prior to registration or within 5 working days of receipt of the registration.
