Canine Officers. Section 1. In the event that the CITY, in its discretion, creates and implements a canine unit, Employees assigned to this unit will be given the designated title of Canine Officer. Because of the unique nature of this position, its duties and the specialized and individual nature of the care and training of the assigned animal, special terms and conditions of employment shall apply to Canine Unit Officers as set forth below and in Rules and Regulations to be issued by the department.

Canine Officers. 1. Canine officers shall be compensated for the care and maintenance of the canine based upon their regular hourly police rate. Time allowed for care and maintenance shall be .5 hour per day. The officer shall be paid at the overtime rate for care and maintenance for hours in pay status in excess of forty (40) in the workweek. [See Side Letter.]
Canine Officers. A. Any officer who meets the qualifications and conditions of the “Application for Police Dog Handler’s Position” may apply for the dog handler position.
Canine Officers. Section 25.1. It is understood and agreed that the Employer has the authority to continue or discontinue the Canine Corps. Bargaining unit employees who are members of the Canine Corps shall receive twenty-four (24) hours of compensatory time per 28 day work schedule for at-home care and maintenance of their assigned working dogs. Alternatively, the Employer may modify the schedule of canine officers so that the care and maintenance time would be part of the officers’ normal, straight-time schedule by reducing the 28 day work schedule by twenty-four hours with pay.
Canine Officers. Officers assigned to work canine shall receive one half hour per day overtime, seven days per week for time spent feeding, exercising, training, grooming and cleaning up after the City’s police dog. On the officer’s regular work days, the City shall have the option to direct the officer to utilize one half an hour of duty time for dog care duties in lieu of the overtime pay described above.
Canine Officers. Canine Officers shall work a nine (9) hour work day, with the tenth (10th) hour of each scheduled work day being devoted to the training, care and maintenance of their canines. When canine officers are on paid leave they shall be charged for nine (9) hours of leave time per day but shall be paid for ten (10).
Canine Officers. X. Xxxxxx officer assignments are at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police. Selection for canine assignment and removal from such assignment may not be appealed or grieved, unless the removal is done for disciplinary reasons.

Canine Officers. The City shall pay employees assigned canine duty for the employee’s personal care of the dog and the facilities in which the dog resides at the prevailing minimum wage rate. Such Canine Care Hours shall be reported weekly in writing and attested to by said employee to the Police Chief or designee. The cost for food, veterinarian care, materials and boarding away from the employee’s residence when necessary shall be paid by the City to a kennel of quality reputation of the City’s choice. If a kennel is used, no grooming and care compensation will be paid to the employee during the period of time the canine is at the kennel. Canine Care Hours shall be limited to those hours reasonable and necessary for the feeding, grooming, and medical care of the canine and for the maintenance of the facility in which the canine resides and that said hours shall be paid at the straight rate and shall be “7K” exemption hours. These duties should not exceed four hours per week, and where possible, canine care hours will be scheduled during regular shift time.
Canine Officers. In the event the City, in its exercise of its sole discretion, elects to establish or maintain a Canine Program, the parties agree to be eligible for assignment or continued assignment at the Police Chief’s discretion. The position of Canine Officer will be subject to the following provisions. Nothing herein shall require the City to create or maintain such program. Canine Officers shall be allowed one-half (1/2) hour during their duty shift to provide care and maintenance for the dog. Canine Officers shall receive one-half (1/2) hour of overtime on off-duty days, including leave days, unless the canine is not in the possession of the Canine Officer. If the off-duty at-home canine care activities exceed the half hour allowances, for any day, the officer shall submit an overtime sheet with the additional activities engaged in, the times at which they took place, and the duration of the activities to his/her supervisor by the end of the shift immediately following the week the additional time was incurred. The dogs assigned to the Canine Unit are property of the Bloomington Police Department and shall not be used for purposes other than official police duties. They shall not be used for breeding purposes. Should the canine, or the assigned Canine Officer, retire or be reassigned for any reason, the canine may become the property of the assigned canine handler at the discretion of the Chief of Police. Any outside use of a canine assigned to the program in direct violation of this Section or the Department’s Canine Unit Policy may result in the removal of the assigned canine handler from the program. The Department shall provide the necessary materials and labor to build a kennel at the Canine Officer’s house. The kennel shall remain the property of the Bloomington Police Department.
