CALAMITY DAYS. Section 42.1 Calamity days are those days of scheduled operation when unanticipated events or conditions require closing of a Board facility or facilities by the Superintendent. Employees will be paid for up to three (3) calamity days per year. However, employees will not be paid for school days or hours added to the school year in order to meet the state-mandated school year requirement.
Section 42.2 For the first three (3) calamity days in a school year, employees will not be required to work when the facility in which they work is closed. For all remaining calamity days in a school year, employees will be required to report to work during the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Employees may use personal or sick leave on a calamity day in which they are required to work. Requests to use personal leave on calamity days do not need to be submitted three (3) days in advance in accordance with Article 28 of this Agreement, but employees shall notify a Building Administrator or other system as designated by the administration no later than one (1) hour prior to the time he is scheduled to report to work.
Section 42.3 Employees who are on vacation or a leave of absence when a calamity day is declared will not receive calamity day pay. If on vacation, they will receive vacation pay for which they are entitled. Employees who are scheduled for a personal, sick, or compensatory day on the day of a declared calamity will have that personal, sick, or compensatory day reinstated. These reinstatements will not be made when only a portion of a day is declared a calamity (such as early dismissal).
Section 42.4 When a calamity forces the closing of the facility prior to regular closing time, employees will remain on the job until dismissed by the Building Principal. Such dismissal time will not exceed more than one-half (1/2) hour beyond the Program Enrollee dismissal time.
Section 42.5 The rest of this Article does not apply to Early Intervention Specialists. Early Intervention Specialists who are scheduled to work on calamity days shall work their regularly scheduled hours, or earlier as released by the Superintendent, at their regular rate of pay unless the building where the employees work is closed due to no water, no heat, etc. or the sheriff closes the roads.
CALAMITY DAYS. A. All bargaining unit members shall be paid their appropriate rate of pay for all days or parts of a day when the school in which they are employed is closed due to an epidemic or other public calamity.
1. All bargaining unit members who are requested by the Director, Superintendent, or his designee, to report to work on a calamity day shall be paid their regular hourly rate of pay in addition to calamity day compensation or shall have the option to take compensatory time for all hours actually worked. All compensatory time must be utilized during the contract year in which it was earned.
B. The Superintendent or his designee shall determine which bargaining unit members normally will be required to report to work on calamity days. Notice will be sent to those bargaining unit members at the beginning of the school year, and they shall report to work on calamity days unless notified not to do so. Other bargaining unit members will not report for work on calamity days unless called and told to do so.
C. When a bargaining unit member is called in to work on a calamity day, he/she shall be paid time and one-half his regular rate of pay for those hours worked outside his normal work hours.
D. Bargaining unit members who report to work because they did not receive notice of the calamity day through no fault of their own shall be paid or receive compensatory time for work performed until they are sent home. Bargaining unit members shall be given a reasonable amount of paid work time to clean up, put away, and secure equipment after being told to leave. Paid time shall be a minimum of two (2) hours at the member’s regular rate of pay.
E. Calamity days shall not be counted as hours worked for the purpose of determining eligibility for overtime payment.
CALAMITY DAYS. 1. For the first five (5) school days in a school year when schools are closed for the entire day by the Employer because of snow or other conditions without the need to make them up, employees would not necessarily report for duty but would be compensated for all hours lost on each of these calamity days of each year. If an employee is on an unpaid leave, no compensation for the day will be paid. When required to work on each of these days, as deemed necessary by the employee's immediate supervisor, the employee shall receive their normal day's pay plus time and one-half for all hours actually worked.
2. If more than five (5) calamity days are required then twelve (12) month employees will report for work on those days. If an employee doesn't believe he/she can safely travel to work they should notify their Immediate Supervisor. Such employee(s) may use accrued vacation or personal time in lieu of reporting to work.
3. No accumulation of calamity time will be charged against employees for two-hour delays or early dismissals. Days are considered calamity days only when school is closed all day.
CALAMITY DAYS. A calamity day shall be defined as an instructional day when the closing of school is deemed necessary as a result of disease, epidemic, hazardous weather conditions, law enforcement emergencies, inoperability of school buses or other equipment needed to operate the school system, damage to a school building or other property, or other temporary circumstances that renders the school facility unfit for instructional use. All members of the bargaining unit shall be subject to call for duty on all calamity days. However, it shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent to notify those members who are expected to report to duty as his/her earliest convenience. Members who are required to report for duty shall be paid their regular daily rate of pay plus an additional amount for all hours actually worked during the calamity day. This additional salary shall be calculated by multiplying the actual hours worked by the member's daily hourly rate. Should the actual hours worked on a calamity day cause a member to be on duty more than forty (40) hours in his/her assigned work week, the member shall be paid time and one-half (11/2) for all hours on duty over forty (40) hours. The Board shall be required to pay for actual time on duty for those members required to report for duty on calamity days. The Board shall not be required to reimburse those members who reported for duty without being requested to do so. The supervisor shall provide a work schedule for those members who are required to report for duty on a calamity day. Calamity make-up days will be scheduled as follows: There will be four (4) days added to the end of the school calendar to be utilized as necessary for make-up of calamity days. Any days for calamity beyond five

If required to report to work, a monitor shall report for and perform work. Work shall be paid for at the rate of time and one-half (1.5). Calamity Days shall be counted as days worked.
CALAMITY DAYS. When school is closed due to a calamity, some employees may be called out to work. In these cases, they will be paid at the rate of double time their regular rate for the hours worked on the first five (5) calamity days. The balance of the scheduled day shall be paid at the regular rate. This policy of paying double time on calamity days shall not exceed five (5) days during any given school year. Employees will not receive any additional pay when a make-up day is scheduled.

4. Calamity days shall be counted as days worked for the purpose of determining the rate of overtime work payments and all benefits.
CALAMITY DAYS. A. In the event that, due to weather conditions or for some other reason, a particular program (e.g. the adult education program, the secondary education program) is closed, employees assigned to that program which is closed shall not be required to report to work. All other employees, unless notified by radio announcement or telephone not to report to work, shall be required to report to work, except that employees assigned to satellite locations shall be subject to the school closings/calamity day provisions of the satellite location’s school district. Twelve month employees covered by this Agreement (i.e. custodians and secretaries) shall be required to report to work, unless notified not to do so. Twelve-month secretaries shall not be required to report to work on calamity days if non-union twelve- month secretaries are not required to report.
CALAMITY DAYS. 2.1 In the event the superintendent of schools closes the schools, those employees who, by virtue of their jobs, are required to perform duties on those days, shall be paid for the hours worked. Pay shall be at full rate and be in addition to the regular salary, or compensatory time off in equal amount shall be granted. Employees not required to work shall receive their regular salary.
