CALAMITY DAYS. A. All bargaining unit members shall be paid their appropriate rate of pay for all days or parts of a day when the school in which they are employed is closed due to an epidemic or other public calamity. 1. All bargaining unit members who are requested by the Director, Superintendent, or his designee, to report to work on a calamity day shall be paid their regular hourly rate of pay in addition to calamity day compensation or shall have the option to take compensatory time for all hours actually worked. All compensatory time must be utilized during the contract year in which it was earned. B. The Superintendent or his designee shall determine which bargaining unit members normally will be required to report to work on calamity days. Notice will be sent to those bargaining unit members at the beginning of the school year, and they shall report to work on calamity days unless notified not to do so. Other bargaining unit members will not report for work on calamity days unless called and told to do so. C. When a bargaining unit member is called in to work on a calamity day, he/she shall be paid time and one-half his regular rate of pay for those hours worked outside his normal work hours. D. Bargaining unit members who report to work because they did not receive notice of the calamity day through no fault of their own shall be paid or receive compensatory time for work performed until they are sent home. Bargaining unit members shall be given a reasonable amount of paid work time to clean up, put away, and secure equipment after being told to leave. Paid time shall be a minimum of two (2) hours at the member’s regular rate of pay. E. Calamity days shall not be counted as hours worked for the purpose of determining eligibility for overtime payment.
CALAMITY DAYS. 19.01 The Superintendent, in consultation with the appropriate administrators, will establish work schedules for the support staff. Work schedules may be changed as required to meet the needs of the District. 19.02 When school is canceled or closed because of inclement weather or other calamity, the following support staff employees are expected to report to work, unless a Fairfield County Level 2 or 3 Snow Emergency is declared: A. District Office personnel; B. Custodial employees; C. Maintenance/grounds employees; and D. Secretarial employees (who may report on a two-hour delay when school is canceled or closed). The Superintendent/designee will decide whether secretarial employees report to the building or perform their duties remotely. 19.03 Calamity day shall not include any day where the school building is closed to students due to an epidemic or pandemic and student learning continues in a remote or distance learning setting. 19.04 Specific job duties or responsibilities may require some employees to report to work in the instance of Level 2 snow emergencies. The Superintendent/designee determines whether or not conditions are too hazardous to expect employees to report for work at the regularly scheduled time, at a later time, or not at all. The work classifications and number of employees required to work on a day when school is closed will be determined by the Superintendent/designee in consultation with building and District administrators. 19.05 Employees who are required to work at times when school is closed will be paid a regular rate of pay unless: (a) the day is one that the District is required to make up in order to complete the required school year as approved by the Board, and (b) the hours worked are hours for which the employee is otherwise entitled to overtime compensation. 19.06 Employees who are required to report for work when school is closed and who fail to report will not receive any compensation for that day and may be subject to disciplinary action. 19.07 Non 12-month employees who are required to work on both a calamity day and a make-up day will be paid for working the make-up day at their regular hourly rate of pay. 19.08 In the event of an inclement weather delay, employees not listed in Article 19.02 whose day coincides with the start of the student instructional day shall have a delayed report time equivalent to that of the delay, except for custodial/maintenance-grounds employees who shall report as directed by their ...
CALAMITY DAYS. 1. For the first five (5) school days in a school year when schools are closed for the entire day by the Employer because of snow or other conditions without the need to make them up, employees would not necessarily report for duty but would be compensated for all hours lost on each of these calamity days of each year. If an employee is on an unpaid leave, no compensation for the day will be paid. When required to work on each of these days, as deemed necessary by the employee's immediate supervisor, the employee shall receive their normal day's pay plus time and one-half for all hours actually worked. 2. If more than five (5) calamity days are required then twelve (12) month employees will report for work on those days. If an employee doesn't believe he/she can safely travel to work they should notify their Immediate Supervisor. Such employee(s) may use accrued vacation or personal time in lieu of reporting to work. 3. No accumulation of calamity time will be charged against employees for two-hour delays or early dismissals. Days are considered calamity days only when school is closed all day.
CALAMITY DAYS. A calamity day shall be defined as an instructional day when the closing of school is deemed necessary as a result of disease, epidemic, hazardous weather conditions, law enforcement emergencies, inoperability of school buses or other equipment needed to operate the school system, damage to a school building or other property, or other temporary circumstance that renders the school facility unfit for instructional use. Teachers will not be required to report to work on days when the district has cancelled classes for students.
CALAMITY DAYS. All monitors shall be paid their appropriate rate of pay for all days or part of a day when schools in which they are employed are closed owing to an epidemic or other public calamity. If required to report to work, a monitor shall report for and perform work. Work shall be paid for at the rate of time and one-half (1.5). Calamity Days shall be counted as days worked.
CALAMITY DAYS. When school is closed due to a calamity, some employees may be called out to work. In these cases, they will be paid at the rate of double time their regular rate for the hours worked on the first five (5) calamity days. The balance of the scheduled day shall be paid at the regular rate. This policy of paying double time on calamity days shall not exceed five (5) days during any given school year. Employees will not receive any additional pay when a make-up day is scheduled.

CALAMITY DAYS. A. In the event that, due to weather conditions or for some other reason, a particular program (e.g. the adult education program, the secondary education program) is closed, employees assigned to that program which is closed shall not be required to report to work. All other employees, unless notified by radio announcement or telephone not to report to work, shall be required to report to work, except that employees assigned to satellite locations shall be subject to the school closings/calamity day provisions of the satellite location’s school district. Twelve month employees covered by this Agreement (i.e. custodians and secretaries) shall be required to report to work, unless notified not to do so. Twelve-month secretaries shall not be required to report to work on calamity days if non-union twelve- month secretaries are not required to report.

CALAMITY DAYS. The Superintendent or other designated central office administrator reserves the right to require any and all full-time employees to report for work on days that the school district or a school building is closed. Those employees who are paid for a calamity day, but do not work the calamity day, shall be required to work any student make-up day scheduled by the Board without additional compensation. Nine (9) and ten (10) month employees who are required to work on a calamity day will be paid the calamity day hours worked if also required to work on a student make-up day. For the duration of this contract (until June 30, 2020), employees who are not called in to work on days when school is cancelled shall be paid for the first five (5) work days that are cancelled; after the first five (5) cancelled work days, all additional days that school is closed must be worked (made up by the employees). When an emergency exists and work is to be performed outside the regular work day, employees shall be called in to work based on the skill needed for the particular job and the availability of the employee to complete the work needed as determined by the supervisor. It is the responsibility of the Director of Human Resources to notify the LSSA President, each employee on the list, and the sheriff’s department of all essential employees by September 15th of each school year. If the Fairfield County Sheriff has declared a Level Three Emergency, all employees not identified on the above list shall not be required to report to work. In the event of a delay in the start of the school day, all bargaining unit members (with the exception of bus drivers) shall report to work at their regularly scheduled work time. In the event that school is cancelled for students, any employee who is scheduled to report to work before 8:00 a.m. will be compensated for at least 30 minutes of work, provided that the time is worked. If an employee is directed or approved by his/her supervisor to remain at work, the employee will be paid for the hours worked.
