Cable trenching. Function: Utilized for cable installation and cable protection. From the point of supply to the surge tanks, electrical loads, cable shall be ran in cable trenches where there is no access to existing cable ducts. When complete with the trenching and filling the contractor shall ensure rehabilitated of the affected areas. Specific requirements: The contractor shall be responsible for providing all cable trenches as required in all soil conditions. All cable trenches shall be prepared and cables installed as per drawing No RB 25673. The contractor shall prepare a quality control plan with witness and hold points at the following stages:  Excavation of cable trenches and preparation of surface bed.  Laying of medium voltage power cables and earth conductors.  Backfilling layer above power cables and compaction.  Laying of control cables.  Backfilling of layer above control cables and compaction.  Installation of paving slabs.  Backfilling to danger tape layer.  Installation of danger tape.  Final backfilling layer.  For road crossings the installation of sleeves and the formwork for the casting of the mass concrete shall be a witness and hold point. Where existing tar roads are to be crossed cable sleeves shall be installed as per the typical cross-section above and the road then re-instated as per drawing B6477. The contractor shall be responsible for providing all cable trenches as required. The excavation of trenches is defined in the terms of the specification as Class 1 soft pickable material or Class 2 Hard Rock. Unless otherwise stated all excavation shall be carried out by hand. Excavations will be classified in two categories only.
