Birthday Leave. Each employee covered by this agreement shall receive a paid leave day for their birthday. This day shall be taken during the same calendar month of, or the next calendar month after, the employee’s birthday on a date mutually agreed upon by the employee and the supervisor. If this day is not used during the month of or the month after the employee’s birthday, it is lost. Under no circumstances will the employee receive any premium, holiday pay, or additional compensation for working on their birthday. Nothing involving the date selected or the method of selection shall be subject to the grievance provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Birthday Leave. Letter carriers may apply for annual leave on their birthday if it falls on a scheduled work day and it will be granted whenever possible.
Birthday Leave. Each employee is entitled to leave on his/her birthday. The employee may take such leave on any day within seven (7) days before or after the actual birthday, pursuant to the rules for granting of “Per Diem” leave as outlined above in Section 2. The employee and his/her supervisor may, upon mutual agreement, agree on another day for birthday leave after the actual birthday. An employee shall not take birthday leave on any observed holiday.

Birthday Leave. A full shift of birthday leave with eight (8) hours paid by birthday accrual may be taken by the employee on the actual birthday month or request an alternate date within the same calendar year as the actual birthday. Requests for birthday leave in the month of the birthday will be granted. Requests for scheduling this benefit on an alternate date outside of the month of the birthday should not be unreasonably denied. Management shall respond to requests for leave with pay in this subsection in a timely manner. If an employee works more than eight (8) hours, the employee will have the option to work the remaining hours or use paid or unpaid leave.
Birthday Leave. Each officer shall receive one (1) day off with pay for his/her birthday. The officer shall be allowed to choose what day to take off for the birthday, manpower permitting with the Chief’s approval or his designee. Birthday leave does not carry over from year to year if unused and is not paid out at separation from service if unused. If an officer moves from an 8-hour to a 12-hour position, hours are adjusted accordingly. Officers hired into the bargaining unit shall accrue birthday leave at one (1) hour per month from date of promotion until the following March. The birthday time off shall be calculated and banked for the officer to use until the subsequent March 31st. On the first April 1st after the date of hire, the normal one (1) day birthday leave shall be awarded to the officer. The 15th day of the month shall be used to determine if the officer receives one (1) hour for the month in which the hire occurs. If the officer is hired on or prior to the 15th of the hire month, then the officer accrues one (1) hour for the month. If the officer is hired after the 15th of the month, no time is accrued for the month.
Birthday Leave. Birthday Leave is granted to any employee in “active status” (pursuant to Rules and Regulations, 401.1(b)) as of January 1st of the calendar year. Birthday leave is a personal holiday, which leave must be used no later than midnight December 31st of the year accrued and, absent exceptional circumstances (which may only be approved by the Chief Administrative Officer), may not be carried over to the next calendar year. Employees categorized as temporary, seasonal, student or part-time working less than twenty (20) hours per week are not eligible for Birthday leave.
