The BILINGUAL POSITIONS clause defines the requirements and expectations for roles that necessitate proficiency in more than one language. BILINGUAL POSITIONS. For the purposes of facilitating a priority placement, displacement or recall following layoff for unilingual matches to bilingual designated positions the following will be considered: • “Reasonable and Necessaryrequirement to provide French language service in accordance with designated areas under the French Language Services Act. • “Reasonable and Practical” alternatives to provide French Language Services through ready access to other bilingual employees.
BILINGUAL POSITIONS a) The Employer shall provide the bargaining agent with a list of all Unifor Local 2025 positions and their current language requirements within ninety (90) days of the signing of the collective agreement. b) Prior to changing the language profile of a position, the Employer will provide notice to the Union including rationale for making the change. c) If a position is identified as bilingual by the Employer, indeterminate unilingual employees will be eligible to make written application provided that an appointment to this position constitutes a promotion for an employee and provided that they undertake to become proficient in the other official language within a two (2) year period from the date on which the Employer approves the employee to commence language training. If an employee fails to meet the language requirements of the position within the above noted two (2) year period, the Employer shall make every possible reasonable effort to place the employee in a position at a classification level equivalent to their former position. An employee shall be granted leave with pay for the purpose of language training and the Employer shall bear all costs associated with such training.
BILINGUAL POSITIONS. 41.01 The Employer will determine if a requirement for a bilingual position exists. 41.02 Employees who occupy a bilingual position and who can demonstrate proficiency as required by the Employer will receive an annual "bilingual allowance" of eight hundred ($800) dollars. 41.03 The Employer will utilize the services of the College de St. Boniface to assess an employee's language proficiency beyond the Manitoba High School Diploma Level (or equivalent) that is required in relation to the job description of the bilingual position.

BILINGUAL POSITIONS. 42.01 The Employer shall notify an Employee when their position has been designated bilingual. 42.02 The Employer agrees that a unilingual Employee in a position designated as bilingual retains that position. The Employer may provide language training to the Employee to meet the requirements of the bilingual position. Bilingual Bonus 42.03 Where an Employee is required by the Employer in the day-to-day operations of her or his position to speak both English and Inuktituk she or he shall be paid a bilingual bonus of fifteen Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) per year. Bilingual bonus shall be paid to full-time and part-time Employees as an hourly allowance, paid on regular hours worked and during periods of annual leave and time-off taken in lieu of pay.
BILINGUAL POSITIONS. 48.01 The Employer will determine if a requirement for a bilingual position exists. 48.02 Employees who occupy a bilingual position and who can demonstrate proficiency as required by the Employer will receive an annual bilingual allowance of eight hundred dollars ($800.00). 48.03 Current employees occupying bilingual positions without possessing the necessary language skills shall be entitled to remain in their position providing they have demonstrated a willingness to acquire the necessary language skills. 48.04 Employees who wish to acquire additional language skills shall be encouraged to do so by the Employer. The Employer will financially assist all employees who undertake to augment their language skills by reimbursing tuition fees upon successful completion of any pre-approved language course from a recognized institution. 48.05 A one (1) time bonus of two hundred & fifty dollars ($250.00) shall be paid to employees occupying unilingual positions upon successful completion of a first language course in one (1) of the official languages.
BILINGUAL POSITIONS. ‌ 36.1 The Company will give the Union, where possible, a minimum of 4 months’ notice when a position is initially designated as requiring the ability to speak both official languages. 36.2 Provided bilingual employees in regular (non-designated) assignment are available in the areas required at the times required, and such employees are prepared to serve bilingually, formal designation is unnecessary. The Company will only formally designate specific positions when the normal process fails to fulfil its needs. 36.3 When the designation of such a position results in a regularly assigned employee being unable to hold a regular assignment, the Company will establish an additional assigned position at equal or superior rate of pay with the same rest days and hours of work, and maintain it for as long as the designated position exists, including successive years for seasonal positions, until there is offsetting permanent attrition, or additional positions, within the assigned group at the location or within the particular service. Attrition for this purpose will include transfers from the group to other regular assignment which may reasonably be expected to provide permanent employment. 36.4 When notice is given by the Company to designate new permanent year round positions, the Company will undertake to provide the opportunity for training to a number of employees equal to the number of permanent positions designated. The Company will meet with the Union to determine the specifics which may include the matter of transportation, accommodation and expenses. Employees who elect to undertake training will be committed to apply for and/or to accept bilingual assignments. 36.5 When an employee wishes to challenge the results of the employee’s proficiency test that was administered by a Marine Atlantic Inc. employee, then the services of a recognized proficiency tester from outside of the organization will be utilized to assess an employee’s language proficiency that is required in relation to the job description of the bilingual position. ARTICLE 37 - PARKING‌ 37.1 Marine Atlantic Inc. agrees to provide parking for work and/or union-related purposes at their designated workplace and at the terminal locations at no cost to employees.
