Common use of Bereavement Clause in Contracts

Bereavement. a. In case of death in the immediate family, a teacher shall be allowed seven (7) calendar days without loss of pay to be taken immediately following the death. Immediate family in this instance shall mean: spouse, children, others living in the home with the employee, and by blood or marriage: parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters. If more than one (1) death in the immediate family should occur, seven (7) calendar days without loss of pay shall be granted for each. A request for a variance from language requiring bereavement leave to be taken immediately following the death of an immediate family member may be granted by the Employer.

Immediate family in this instance shall mean: spouseis defined as husband or wife, children, others mother, father, mother-in- law, father-in-law, sister, brother, grandparents, grandchildren and any other member of the family unit living in the home with same household. The first day of the employee, and by blood or marriage: parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters. If more than one (1) death in leave will be the immediate family should occur, seven (7) calendar days without loss of pay shall be granted for each. A request for a variance from language requiring bereavement leave to be taken immediately following day the death occurs (however, if employee worked the day the death occurs, leave will begin the following day.) Proof of an immediate family member death and relationship may be granted requested by the EmployerSuperintendent.
