BEREAVEMENT ALLOWANCE. 16.01 (a) The employer agrees to allow employees leave of absence, without loss of pay for five consecutive regular working days (calculated at straight time at the base hourly rate) in the event of the death of a parent, spouse or child, provided the time is required to look after funeral arrangements or family needs.

BEREAVEMENT ALLOWANCE. 29.01 Should a bereavement occur in a regular employee’s immediate family (members of his household including same sex partner, parents, brothers, sisters, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren) he may request a bereavement leave, and he shall be granted such time off with pay as is reasonable under the circumstances to enable him to look after funeral arrangements or to attend the funeral. The extent of such leave shall be at the discretion of the Company, depending upon the time of the bereavement in relation to his regular time off, the distance to be travelled, etc. The general standard of bereavement time off shall be three (3) consecutive days.

Immediate family, for the provisions of this Agreement, shall be limited to the employee’s sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in- law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, step parents, step children, grandparents, grandparents of the spouse, grandchildren and grandchildren of the spouse. The bereavement leave for the death of a spouse, child or parent will be five (5) working days.

In all cases, the time off and the paid time off must be completed within five (5) calendar days of notification. For the purpose of clause 22.01(a) immediate family will mean: current spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, grandparent and grandchild.

BEREAVEMENT ALLOWANCE. Provided the employee has been continuously employed for three (3) consecutive months by the Company, he is entitled to and shall be granted, in the event of the death of a member of his immediate family, bereavement leave. Immediate family shall mean: (employee’s spouse or common-law partner; the employee’s father and mother and the spouse or common-law partner of the father or mother; the employee’s child(xxx) and the child(xxx) of the employee’s spouse or common-law partner; the employee’s grandchild(xxx); the employee’s brothers and sisters; the grandfather and grandmother of the employee; the father and mother of the spouse or common-law partner of the employee and the spouse or common-law partner of the father or mother; brother-in-law and sister-in-law and any relative of the employee who resides permanently with the employee or whom the employee permanently resides). In such case he would receive the next five (5) days succeeding days off for the spouse or common-law partner, parents and children or the next four (4) succeeding days off plus one (1) additional day for the day of the funeral. For other immediate family member, the employee would receive the next three (3) succeeding days off, or the next two (2) succeeding days off plus one (1) additional day for the day of the funeral. In the event that the employee loses any time as a result of his absence, the Company will pay such lost time at the employee’s normal rate of pay. In addition, if the employee is notified while at work of a death in his immediate family, he shall be relieved from duty and paid for the balance of that work day. The Company may require proof of the circumstances from the employee before any payment is made under the terms of this section. In addition to the foregoing a request for an unpaid Leave of Absence to attend personal affairs in the event of the death of an immediate family member or aunt, uncle, xxxxx, nephew or first cousin will not be unreasonably withheld. If the death or burial occurs outside a 500-kilometre radius from the employees’ residence, or outside of Canada the employee may request up to an additional ten (10) days leave of absence or portion thereof. The Company shall grant such leave of absence providing the needs of the operations are not adversely affected by such leave. Such leave shall be unpaid, and the Company shall require proof of death or burial.

Exceptions shall be approved by the Human Resources Manager.
BEREAVEMENT ALLOWANCE. If a death occurs during an employees approved vacation they must reschedule up to total days entitlement at maximum of five (5) working paid days of vacation at a later date, as agreed upon with the Company.
