Benefits While on Leave of Absence. A maximum of one (1) year of seniority may be accrued while on an approved leave of absence, along with full longevity benefits. Holidays, vacation and sick leave benefits shall not accrue during an approved leave of absence without pay.
Benefits While on Leave of Absence a. The Board shall pay the total premium cost of benefit plans of persons receiving disability benefits from either the Salary Indemnity Plan: Short Term or the Salary Indemnity Plan: Long Term.

Benefits While on Leave of Absence. During the period of any approved unpaid leave of absence granted under Article 16.5, the Employer will not contribute to the benefit plans on behalf of the employee for the entire period of the leave. Subject to the terms of the benefit plans, the employee may fully fund such contributions (including any portion that would otherwise be paid by the Employer) on his or her own, if the employee chooses to continue the benefits during the leave.
Benefits While on Leave of Absence. The City shall provide to any employee who is on a leave of absence of thirty (30) days or less, the same premium payments on health, dental and life insurance available to such employee while actively employed. No other benefits shall accrue during any leave of absence.

All benefits other than such covered under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) will continue from the date of the start of unpaid leave, through the end of the following month in calendar days. For example, if the unpaid leave begins on April 15th, then all benefits will continue through the end of May.

When an employee is absent on an approved leave of absence, the Home will continue to pay its share of the premiums for the coverage under the employee Benefit Plans, set out in Articles 20.02 and 20.03, for the balance of the month in which the leave commenced and for a period of two (2) months immediately following the commencement of the leave, provided the employee agrees to pay to the Home the employee's share of the premium costs (where required under the Collective Agreement) prior to the due date of the premium. When the leave of absence exceeds the two (2) month period following the commencement of the leave, an employee will become responsible for the full payment of the premiums. An employee may arrange with the Home to continue Benefit coverage by paying the total cost of the premiums to the Home prior to the date on which payment is due (i.e., on a monthly basis). Vision Care: The first full month following ratification (March 9, 2017), Vision care shall be increased to two hundred and seventy-five ($275.00) dollars every twenty-four (24) months, inclusive of one (1) eye examination every twenty four (24) months. Effective December 9, 2017 Vision care benefit shall increase to three hundred ($300.00) dollars every twenty-four (24) months, inclusive of one (1) eye examination every twenty four (24) months.

When an employee has been granted a leave of absence without pay for a period of three (3) months or more under Article 22.03, the Employer shall discontinue its share of any premium or contributions to any of the employee benefits. However, the employee may make arrangements for any such continuation of employee benefits by paying the full premiums or contributions herself. All such premiums or contributions must be paid in advance.
