Common use of Benefit Period Clause in Contracts

Benefit Period. Employees who are not eligible for Employment Insurance Sickness Benefits are eligible, subject to the terms of the policy with the Underwriter, for Short Term Disability Benefit payments for up to 26 weeks. Employees who are eligible for Employment Insurance Sickness Benefits will be eligible for Short Term Disability Benefit payments for the first 15 weeks. If, after the first 15 weeks, the employee is still disabled, Employment Insurance Sickness Benefits will replace the Short Term Disability Benefit payments for up to a further 15 weeks. If the employee is still disabled when Employment Insurance benefits have expired, he will be eligible for up to a further 11 weeks of Short Term Disability payments.
