Authentic Assessment. An authentic assessment includes a task for students to perform and a rubric by which their performance on the task will be evaluated. Child-centered learning communities • Student-Centered Teaching and Learning focuses on the needs, abilities, interests, and learning styles of the students. Accordingly, a prominent pedagogy will be teacher- as-coach, to provoke students to learn how to learn and thus to teach themselves, rather than the more traditional teacher-centered learning with teacher-as-deliverer- of-instructional-services, which places the teacher at its center in an active role and students in a passive, receptive role. Developmentally Appropriate Practices • Meeting young children where they are (by stage of development), both as individuals and as part of a group; and helping each child meet challenging and achievable learning goals.
