APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. Par. 1. Any District employee who has successfully met all the prerequisites established by the District and is selected to enter a District apprenticeship program, shall, as a condition of entering an apprenticeship program, attend an apprenticeship program orientation of that program. The orientation will include a meeting with a supervisor to cover job requirements and expectations, working conditions, and an interview with a journey level worker. Any employee after entering a program and who leaves that program for any reason prior to attaining journey level status, shall forfeit their right to enter another program for one year or the length of time served in that program, whichever is lesser.

APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. The company acknowledges the need to train and improve the skills of its employees. Therefore the company agrees to meet with the union in January of each year to review the hiring of apprentices to ensure the transfer of knowledge and continuation of productivity where it is beneficial to production requirements.
APPRENTICE PROGRAMS iv. The tuition cost for Mandated continuing education will be at no cost to the employee, but enrollment shall be subject to budgetary limitations as determined on an annual basis by the Department.

(a) The established Apprentice Programs between The Long Island Rail Road Company and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are attached for the Maintenance of Equipment Department as Appendix I-1 and for the Maintenance of Way Department as Appendices I-2 and I-3.
APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. All vacancies in an apprentice program shall be posted as the top classification in that job classification. An employee who is the successful bidder for a vacancy within an approved apprentice program and thereafter withdraws or is disqualified for any reason, before completing the program, may be placed by the Director at any position at its corresponding current rate of pay as provided for in Article 3 of this agreement. A newly hired employee in an apprentice program (meaning off the street) who fails to complete the program, for any reason, may be terminated.
