Additional Program Requirements. 4.1. Nondiscrimination The Agency shall screen potential program participants and provide Program Activities to all eligible program participants regardless of race, color, sex, age, religious creed, disability, national origin or ancestry, sexual orientation, gender, marital status, family status, military status, or source of income. Additional Program Requirements. ‌  The Elementary Education program at TU fulfills the requirements for Maryland State Certification in Teaching.  The basic skills test requirement will be waived for students earning the AAT degree with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher.  Admission to the Elementary Education program at TU requires a minimum GPA of 3.00 during the most recent two years of the candidate’s education. A grade of Pass is not accepted for courses required in the major. Advanced credits (e.g. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge) can be applied towards requirements in the major.  Elementary Education majors are required to maintain a semester GPA of 3.00 in required education courses.  This program requires students to take summer courses during enrollment at TU.  As Elementary Education interns, students follow the school system calendar of the Professional Development School (PDS) in which they are assigned. In Level III or Level IV (as appropriate), interns begins in August when teachers start the school year. Interns observe the school system calendar instead of the TU calendar, including spring break. All prerequisite courses must be completed before Level III begins. BACHELOR’S DEGREE REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL TU STUDENTS:  A grade of C (2.0) or higher is required in all major courses and prerequisites.  A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 is required.  32 units of the bachelor’s degree must be completed at the upper level (courses numbered 300 or above).
