ACTING OFFICER. Section 27.1: Employees covered by this Agreement who are assigned to temporarily fill a position of a higher rank shall receive assignment pay of five percent (5%) above their base pay for hours worked in said temporary position, provided a minimum of three (3) consecutive shifts are worked in the position within the pay period.

ACTING OFFICER. A firefighter who is assigned and accepts riding above class for a period of four (4) hours or more shall be compensated for their time to the nearest hour. This compensation shall be paid at the rate of $1.50 per hour more than the employee’s base rate. A Lieutenant who is assigned and accepts riding above class for a period of four (4) hours or more shall be compensated for his/her time to the nearest hour. This compensation shall be paid at the rate of $2.50 per hour more than the Lieutenant’s base rate.

ACTING OFFICER. If a Fire Captain is assigned and works as an Acting Assistant or Acting Fire Chief due to the unavailability or absence of an officer of a higher rank for a minimum of two consecutive hours, the Fire Captain shall be entitled to receive a pay rate of 11% above the Fire Captain's wage rate for those hours actually worked in such a capacity. If the Fire Captain has achieved all of the established criteria, as set forth in department policy, the Fire Captain shall be entitled to receive a pay rate of 13% above the Fire Captain’s wage rate for those hours actually worked in such capacity. If an Assistant Fire Chief is assigned and works as an Acting Fire Chief due to the unavailability or absence of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief shall be entitled to receive a rate of 7% above the Assistant Chief’s current wage rate for those hours actually worked in such capacity. The Fire Captain remains an overtime-eligible employee. The selection of the officer to be assigned as the acting officer shall be made by the Fire Chief. An officer assigned as the acting officer shall be responsible to perform all the duties of the position and/or all other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief has the sole discretion in determining the need for such a temporary Acting Officer assignment. The officer must satisfactorily perform all the duties and requirements of the position. Unsatisfactory performance will be noted and may be grounds for non-appointmentat the next opportunity.
ACTING OFFICER. In the event that there shall be no sergeant or higher ranking officer on duty at any time, it is understood that the most senior officer on duty will assume command responsibilities consistent with departmental rules, regulations and standard operating procedures. The City reserves the right to prohibit an officer from assuming such command responsibilities for just cause. In that event, the next most senior officer would assume those responsibilities. Any officer who shall act for and perform the duties of a senior ranking officer in the absence of such senior officer and who shall have performed the duties thereof for a period of thirty (30) aggregate days within a calendar year, shall thereafter be entitled to compensation appropriate to such senior rank for all time served working that senior rank capacity, beyond the thirty (30) days. It is understood by the parties that a senior officer’s regularly scheduled days off in a week shall not be counted towards the fulfillment of the thirty (30) day aggregate total even though an officer may assume the higher rank on those regularly scheduled days off. Any officer performing the duties of a senior officer shall submit an OIC Pay Slip at the conclusion of that shift. Commencing with the 31st occurrence, such officer shall be compensated at the pay of the higher rank for all such subsequent occasions through the end of the calendar year. Such pay shall be included in the officer’s next regular payroll check, subject to the normal payroll submission deadlines.
ACTING OFFICER. A. Any employee who serves in an acting capacity in a higher classification at any time shall upon completion of a total of seven (7) days, once in a career, receive the rate of pay for the higher classification from and after the seventh (7th) working day.
