Academic Progress. Xxxxx Scholars are required to maintain satisfactory academic progress, according to the conditions below.

Academic Progress. The student shall maintain satisfactory progress in all core courses taken. If the student’s semester average is less than 75 in any of the core subject areas of English, Math, Science, or Social Studies, the student may be placed on academic probation for the next semester. If any of the student’s averages are below 75 in any core subject at the end of the probationary period, the student may be denied transfer status in the following school year. In addition, the student also must pass the appropriate grade level or course state assessment. Failure of a state exam invalidates the transfer agreement, although the parent will be allowed to appeal. A declaration that a student is ineligible for a transfer in a future school year due to a lack of academic progress may be based on the recommendation of the Campus Principal. If a student is assigned to summer school or tutorials and fails to attend, the Principal may recommend that the student be considered for denial of transfer status in a future school year. All transfer students are expected to show progress toward college and career readiness. Students in the 9th through 12th grade are expected to complete at least 3 college hours, complete one or more AP classes, and progress toward the highest graduation plan. All students are expected to participate in an at least one extracurricular activity. Students taking a STAAR assessment are expected to attain a score of “MEETS GRADE LEVEL” or an “ACCELERATED” Progress Measure for each assessment taken. PARENT/GUARDIAN SUPPORT Parent/guardian shall attend all scheduled and requested parent conferences and be readily accessible and responsive to efforts made by District staff to contact parent/guardian by either phone, digital message (SMS, internet or app-based messaging platforms), or email. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to update contact information with the District accordingly. Transfer students who enroll after the first instructional day may be required to attend a mandatory parent and student meeting upon their starting school. Failure to attend the required parent conferences without documented justifiable reason may result in the student being denied transfer status in future school years. Academic Progress. As part of Lavaca Middle School’s parent involvement plan, 5th grade students will bring home a “Take Home Folder” once a week with school notes, parent-teacher communication as well as grades papers. Parents are asked to review their student’s work, and return the folder to school the next day. Students in the 6th grade will bring home folders every other week. Academic Progress. On May 12, 2016 the Spring 2016 semester came to an end and academic coordinators completed sending the third and last set of progress reports for the semester. The reports were studied and, when needed, proper advisory action was taken. The reports and the semester results demonstrated that the USP II scholars, initial cohort and new cohort included, are performing very well and progressing normally. Indeed all remaining 30 scholars completed all the requirements for graduation. All 30 have met the terms of the USAID grant.
