A Pembina Institute poll released in June shows British Columbians support carbon taxes and are confident that action to reduce greenhouse gas pollution will help grow, or have little or no impact on the provincial economy. According to the poll, 69% of British Columbians are worried about climate change and 70% want the province to continue showing leadership on the issue. The poll also shows that most BC citizens feel the carbon tax has either been positive (33%) or neutral (41%) for the province. Applying the tax fairly and investing in health care, education and green projects appear to be good ways of building public support for the tax, said Xxxx Xxxxx, director of BC Energy Solutions for the Pembina Institute. According to the Ministry of Finance, the tax is revenue- neutral, with every dollar generated going back to British Columbians through tax cuts, including the quarterly Low Income Climate Action Tax Credit and the new up-to-$200 Northern and Rural Homeowner benefit. ✐ Books Received
