Yizkor definition
Yizkor in Hebrew means "remembrance" or "memorial" in English. Many survivor organizations have published books, mostly in Hebrew or Yiddish, that commemorate Jewish communities in Europe that were obliterated in the Holocaust. These books can be found in the Simon Wiesenthal Center Library & Archives, the UCLA Library in Los Angeles, the Library of Congress, and other Holocaust research centers around the globe. Yizkor is a Hebrew word that means ‘Remember’; it is the first word of a series of Jewish prayers and a meditation offered specifically for the memory of lost loved ones. The Yizkor meditation reads, in part:
