If an individual will be under 17 years of age at the time their training commences, unless they are undertaking training as part of a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship, to be eligible for Skills First subsidised training, they must have received an exemption from school attendance.
By agreement in writing, and with the consent of the relevant State Training Authority, the relevant employer and the trainee may vary the duration of the Traineeship and the extent of approved training provided that any agreement to vary is in accordance with the relevant Traineeship Scheme.
Such school based traineeships/apprenticeships are undertaken at a minimum Certificate II Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification for traineeship level and a minimum Certificate III Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification for apprenticeship level as specified in the relevant Vocational Training Order pursuant to the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001.
An application for approval of a Traineeship Scheme shall identify the relevant industry union(s) and demonstrate to the satisfaction of the approving authority that the abovementioned consultation and negotiations have occurred.
