Total Discharge definition

Total Discharge. The quantity of a given constituent, measured as dry mass or volume, that passes a stream cross section per unit of time. When referring to constituents other than water, this term needs to be qualified, such as “total sediment discharge”, “total chloride discharge”, etc. Total Head — Energy contained by fluid because of its pressure, velocity, and elevation, usually expressed in feet of fluid (foot-pounds per pound). Total in Bottom Material — The total amount of a given constituent in a representative sample of bottom material.
