TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. As professionals, teachers are expected to devote to their assignments the time necessary to meet their responsibilities, but they shall not be required to “clock in or clock out” by hours and minutes. Teachers shall indicate their presence for duty by placing their signature and time in the proper column of the faculty “sign-in” roster.
TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. 9.1 Teachers shall be required to work on the days specified in the official school calendar and according to the schedule of opening and closing schools as determined by the Board. Mandatory professional development days shall not be scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays. Except for special orientation meetings for new teachers, teachers who are required to work extra days before or after the dates specified in the official calendar shall receive additional compensation at their appropriate daily rate.

The standard workweek of teachers shall be Monday through Friday and the normal in-school time for teachers shall be as follows, unless professional duties, such as parent-teacher conferences, require teachers to remain for a longer period: Elementary (Young 5’s thru 5th) 8:15 A.M. - 3:40 P.M. Middle School (6 through 8) 7:30 A.M. - 2:50 P.M. High School (9 through 12) 7:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Where the time extends beyond the last assigned period of the day, it shall not apply to Fridays or the day preceding holidays or vacation. The Administration may schedule a required parent-teacher meeting for an open house beyond the contracted school day or school year each year. In addition, each year a teacher shall be responsible to participate in one other parent-teacher meeting beyond the contracted school day which is mutually agreeable to the teacher and the Administration.

The Board and the Association recognize and agree that the teachers' responsibility to their students and their profession generally entails the performance of duties and the expenditure of time beyond the normal working day, but that the teachers are entitled to regular time and work schedules on which they can rely in the ordinary course and which will be fairly and evenly maintained to the extent possible throughout the school system except in emergencies, and without prejudice to voluntary professional service above and beyond contract requirements.

Effective July 1, 2015, the teachers’ normal in-school workday shall be extended by an additional twenty (20) minutes, to seven (7) hours and twenty (20) minutes. Section 1 – Work Day For the applicable agreement period, the normal work day will be seven and one-quarter (7 ¼) hours including arrival time fifteen (15) minutes before and departure time (15) minutes after the students’ school day. The normal work day will include uninterrupted prep time. The Building Principal, as authorized by the Superintendent, upon request of a teacher or group of teachers, may waive the requirement to remain fifteen (15) minutes after the school day for a specific day or days. It is recognized; however, that the proper performance of their duties may, on occasion, require these persons to work longer than the normal work day, i.e. for conferences, faculty meetings, department meetings, etc. Therefore, “mandatory meetings will occur two times per month and be no longer than 90 minutes in length, inclusive of the additional 15 minutes beyond the scheduled student school day. A schedule of the meetings will be distributed by June 30th of the previous school year, but may be changed at the discretion of the Principal with 48 hours’ notice.” Teachers will also remain at school after the fifteen (15) minutes described above, during one (1) day each calendar week for such periods of time as is necessary to provide students extra help, and/or to meet with parents or guardians, concerning the progress of their children or wards. No teacher shall be required to work more than a normal seven and one- quarter (7 ¼) hour day, including fifteen (15) minutes before and (15) minutes after the students’ school day, which will include uninterrupted prep time; this provision does not apply to other contractually agreed upon time and meetings. Should state law require a longer instructional day, or more days, the teachers shall work the added time and the parties shall immediately commence impact bargaining on the issue. This article does not purport to cover the arrival and departure time of teachers involved in special assignments.

Additional increases in the length of the school day will be made only if mandated by the State Law or regulations issued pursuant thereto, or until after agreement with the Association.
