Superchlorination definition

Superchlorination means the addition of an oxidizing product such as chlorine to pool water to raise the level of oxidizer to at least 10 ppm. “Superchlorination” is sometimes referred to as “superoxidation”.
Superchlorination means the addition of a chlorine disinfectant compound to a swimming pool or spa to a concentration at least ten times the combined chlorine concentration before the addition. Treatment of swimming pool or spa water with nonchlorine chemicals to eliminate or suppress combined chlorine is not superchlorination.
Superchlorination means the addition of large quantities of chlorine-based chemicals to kill algae, destroy odors, or improve the ability to maintain a disinfectant residual. This process is different from hyperchlorination, which is a prescribed amount to achieve a specific CT inactivation value whereas superchlorination is the raising of free chlorine levels for water quality maintenance.

Examples of Superchlorination in a sentence

  • Super-chlorination shall be accomplished by the addition of calcium hypochlorite, sodium hypochlorite, or other approved chlorine compounds.

  • Super-chlorination shall be accomplished at times when the pool is closed and a safe range of chlorine disinfection shall be attained before patrons are permitted to return to the pool.

  • Superchlorination is necessary when disinfecting new facilities, when returning facilities to service after taking them offline, and when contamination is detected.

  • Dewatering discharges are typically considered a low or limited threat to water quality and may be covered under the General Order for Dewatering and Other Low Threat Discharges to Surface Waters (Low Threat General Order) or the General Order for Limited Threat Discharges of Treated/Untreated Groundwater from Cleanup Sites, Wastewater from Superchlorination Projects, and Other Limited Threat Wastewaters to Surface Water (Limited Threat General Order).

  • Superchlorination is required when the combined chlorine reading reaches 0.4 ppm or greater.
