Situational definition

Situational means the implicit brain response is automatically registered alongside parameters of the current situation. An ability to interpret ongoing brain activity taken in and of itself results merely in a stream of mental state assessments. In order to learn something from these mental states, they must be combined with additional information about the situation in which these mental states occurred. Cognitive probes ensure that at least one piece of situational information is available: the probe itself.
