Senior judge status may be conferred upon an accredited judge in good standing who has served a minimum of 10 (ten) years as a certified judge but is unable to fulfill the total attendance and judging requirements.
Senior judge days funded by the State, as part of regular operations, are separate from those funded by the Judicial Council’s ARPA Grant Program, as ARPA funds allocated to the Judicial Branch may only be used for senior judge days responding to case backlogs caused or exacerbated by the pandemic (prioritizing cases involving serious violent felonies).
