Definition of Routine road maintenance


Routine road maintenance means preservation, including road repairs and resurfacing, and the replacement of signs, posts, and guardrails at the exact same location when no additional penetration of existing grade is necessary, but does not include road construction, installation of signs, posts, and guardrails, or any activity that requires penetration of existing grade;

Routine road maintenance activities include blading the road surface, cleaning and maintaining ditches, grade dips, waterbars and culverts and other drainage structures, and tree and brush removal to improve sight distance and vehicle recovery zones, and eliminating hazard trees (see definition of "routine maintenance" in Section VII).
