REDUCTION IN RANK definition

REDUCTION IN RANK means a demotion to a lower-classified position.
REDUCTION IN RANK means more than one numerical grade or pay level under the classification system. Basically, it means lowering an employee’s relative standing in the organizational structure as determined by the employee’s official position description. An employee’s position assignment may be changed only by an official personnel action. When an employee is made the subject of an official personnel action which results in lowering the employee’s relative standing in the organizational structure, a reduction in rank has occurred even though there has not been a reduction in class or pay level. Such actions may be taken only under adverse action procedures.
