Precariously housed individuals are in imminent risk of becoming homeless under HUD’s definition; this includes those temporarily living in a hotel, with friends or family, couch surfing, or staying in an institution like a hospital or treatment facility.
Precariously housed includes doubled-up (sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason), living in substandard housing or at risk of imminent eviction.
