Point of Privilege definition

Point of Privilege means a matter that a member considers to question their integrity and/or the integrity of the Council.
Point of Privilege. – shall mean a statement calling attention to a matter where the integrity of an individual (personal) or the entire Council is perceived to be in question.
Point of Privilege means a matter that affects the credibility, reputation, and dignity of a Member individually or that Council or Committee collectively hold, that ensure Council’s or a Committee’s ability to function freely; a need for assistance, to be excused for illness or a personal emergency.

  • If the Chair agrees, a Member may present a Point of Privilege at any time and must sit back down in his or her seat after doing so.

  • The Board cannot debate or amend a Point of Privilege and the Chair immediately rules on the Point of Privilege and gives reasons for the Ruling.

  • Unless acknowledged by the Chair to raise a Point of Order or a Point of Privilege, a Member cannot interrupt a Member who is speaking.

  • When a Point of Privilege is raised, it shall be considered and decided by the Chair immediately and the decision of the Chair under this section shall be final.

  • When a Member is permitted to raise such matter of privilege, it shall take precedence over other matters, but the Member shall not be permitted to enter into any argument or introduce any Motion related to the Point of Privilege.

Point of Privilege means the procedural mechanism by which a member may rise to address incorrect, defamatory or slanderous statements made about the Council, councillors, or employees of the municipality.
