Ophthalmic dispensing definition

Ophthalmic dispensing means [the] :
Ophthalmic dispensing means the preparation of laboratory work orders, verification, and dispensing of spectacle lenses, spectacles, eyeglasses, and/or parts thereof to the intended wearer thereof on a written prescription from a licensed physician skilled in disease of the eye or licensed optometrist. It shall include; the measuring, fitting, adapting, and adjusting of such spectacle lenses, spectacles, eyeglasses, and/or parts thereof to the human face; the preparation and delivery of work orders to laboratory technicians engaged in grinding lenses and fabrication of eyewear; the verification of the quality of finished spectacle lenses, spectacle or eyeglasses; and the adjustment or repair of spectacle frames to the human face. The prescribing, adapting, fitting, duplicating, dispensing, modifying, selling or supplying of contact lenses for or to the human eye is specifically excluded.
Ophthalmic dispensing means that a person[ practices ophthalmic dispensing within the meaning of the provisions of this chapter relating to ophthalmic dispensers, who] prepares and dispenses lenses, spectacles, eyeglasses, or appurtenances thereto to the intended wearers[ thereof] on written prescriptions from licensed physicians, osteopaths, or optometrists[ duly licensed to practice their profession], and in accordance with these[such] prescriptions, interprets, measures, adapts, fits, and adjusts the[such] lenses, spectacles, eyeglasses, or appurtenances thereto to the human face for the aid or correction of visual or ocular anomalies of the human eyes. The services and appliances relating to ophthalmic dispensing shall be dispensed, furnished, or supplied to the intended wearer or user[ thereof] only upon a written prescription issued by a physician, osteopath, or optometrist.[; but] Duplications, replacements, reproductions, or repetitions may be provided[done] without prescriptions, but[in which event any such act] shall be construed to be ophthalmic dispensing the same as if performed on the basis of an original written prescription.
