Oceanographic research vessel means a vessel which the secretary of the department in which the United States Coast Guard is operating, or his successor, finds is an oceanographic research vessel under the laws of the United States.
Oceanographic research vessel. ’ means a vessel that the Secretary finds is being employed only in instruction in ocean- ography or limnology, or both, or only in oceanographic or limnological research, including studies about the sea such as seismic, gravity meter, and magnetic exploration and other ma- rine geophysical or geological surveys, atmospheric research, and biological research.
