Haemorrhagic changes, such as ossified subperiosteal haematomas, are characterised by newly-built spongy bone on the intact external surface of the original bone (▇▇▇▇ & ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, 1987; ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, 2001, 2003; Maat, 2004).

Ossified haematomas, probably associated with healed scurvy, were macroscopically characterised by localised and well-demarcated lesions of bone apposition (▇▇▇▇ & ▇▇▇▇▇▇, 1990; Maat, 2004).
