Length (L) definition

Length (L) means 96 per cent of the total length on a waterline at 85 per cent of the least moulded depth measured from the top of the keel, or the length from the foreside of the stem to the axis of the rudder stock on that waterline, if that be greater. In ships designed with a rake of keel the waterline on which this length is measured shall be parallel to the designed waterline. The length (L) shall be measured in metres.
Length (L) means the maximum length of the hull in metres, excluding rudder and bowsprit;
Length (L) means the overall length of the underwater watertight envelope of the rigid hull, excluding appendages, at or below the design waterline in the displacement mode with no lift or propulsion machinery active.

Examples of Length (L) in a sentence

  • Simulations have been performed with L3 lattices, for different values of lattice length L in each direction; open symbols are for even L=16,20,24; closed are for odd L (see text).

  • This stress can be expressed by the use of a ‘basic stress’ quantity which represents the stress for an imaginary vessel of length L = 36R chosen such that the saddle horn stresses evaluated at this location are free from the influence of the vessel ends.

  • The older simulations, for non-spinning BHNS binaries, use initial resolutions on the finite difference grid of ∆x = (329, 263, 220, 188) m (the q = 2 case was not run at the highest resolution, the other cases were not run at the coarsest resolution), within a cubic box of initial length L = 26.3km.

  • In this paper we shall use a very general assumption, expressed in terms of the Fourier transform (2.2)f 0(η) =Rde−2iπη·v f 0(v) dv,the length L, and the interaction potential W .

  • To that end, consider a finite network of edge length L and a cubic region with M L sites per edge.

Length (L) in relation to a vessel, means the registered length shown on the vessel’s register and as defined in Statutory Instrument 1998 No. 1916 The Merchant Shipping (Tonnage) (Fishing Vessels) (Amendment) Regulations 1998. The definition is as per 1.2.46;
Length (L) means the overall length of the un- derwater watertight envelope of the rigid hull, excluding ap- pendages, at or below the design waterline in the displace- ment mode with no lift or propulsion machinery active.
Length (L) in relation to a vessel, means the registered length shown on the vessel’s register and as defined in the Shipping (Tonnage) (Jersey) Regulations 2004;
Length (L) means 96% of the total length on a waterline at 85% of the least moulded depth measured from the top of the keel, or the length from the foreside of the stem to the axis of the rudder stock on that waterline, if that be greater.
Length (L) means the distance between the foreside of the foremost fixed permanent structure and the after side of the aftermost fixed permanent structure; and "fixed permanent structure" includes any portion of the hull which is capable of being detached, but which is fixed in place during the normal operation of the vessel. It does not include functional arrangements such as safety rails, bowsprits, pulpits, stemhead fittings, rudders, steering gear, outdrives, outboard motors, propulsion machinery, diving platforms, boarding platforms, rubbing strips and fenders, other than where such functional arrangements are designed to replace any part of the hull that has been removed.
Length (L) means the ship’s length L, as defined in the relevant regulations on ship’s construction and equipment etc.
