Hydrophytic literally means water-loving. These plants employ various adaptations for survival in a waterlogged and anaerobic environment. Upland plants typically absorb oxygen through roots. Wetland plants are unable to do this so they have developed fascinating alternatives to obtain and transport oxygen.
