HND definition

HND means a qualification as set out in Schedule 1 and/or Schedule 2 validated by Institution of at least 240 credits (one credit equalling ten notional learning hours) of which 120 credits must be at level 5, which uses the Pearson IP and is offered under the Pearson Qualification title and Higher National Diploma Trade Mark. The HND is designed to provide assessed certification by the Institution after two years of full time study or equivalent period of part time study of an undergraduate Programme to allow students to progress into employment or into further learning. It is not regulated by Ofqual.

Examples of HND in a sentence

  • HND Applied Biological Science, HND Applied Chemistry and HNC/D Chemical Process Technology were reviewed with employers to review course design.

  • The College has reduced its full time fee for HND down from £5,975 to £3,975 from September 2014 to try to attract more students.

  • Onwards progression for the successful HNC graduates was positive – eight took up the offer of articulation into HND year 2 and two progressed into employment (one a Modern Apprenticeship).

  • The level of 2+2 articulation from HND programmes into year 3 of degree programmes is much higher in this region than in any other part of Scotland.
