High Care (HIC) definition

High Care (HIC) means the unit of a Hospital where patients can be cared for more extensively than a normal ward but not to the point of admission into ICU.
High Care (HIC) means a designated area of a hospital that provides invasive monitoring and support for patients at risk of developing organ failure and/or where the predicted risk of clinical deterioration is high or unknown. They are staffed with one nurse to two patients. Admission in HIC is subject to Pre- authorisation and is based on clinical guidelines and protocols.
