High acuity psychiatric unit definition

High acuity psychiatric unit means a distinct psychiatric unit for individuals who are currently exhibiting three or more to a moderate degree or two or more to a severe degree of the following: confusion, irritability, boisterousness, poor impulse control, uncooperativeness, hostility, verbal threats, physical threats, or attacking objects. This term also includes patients who are unwilling or unable to stop attempts at self-harm or suicide or patients who have a history of violence to self or others on an inpatient psychiatric unit.
