HEW Level definition

HEW Level means Higher Education Worker Level as described in Schedule 1 – Rates to be paid for Higher Education Workers and Schedule 3The University of Newcastle Classification Descriptors.

Examples of HEW Level in a sentence

  • For the avoidance of doubt this will have no impact on, or change to, incremental progression e.g. a Gippsland Transferred Employee on the second lowest salary increment prior to 10 July 2016 such as HEW Level 5 increment 7 will change to HEW Level 5 increment 2 on 10 July 2016.

  • The provisions of this clause shall only apply to fixed-term staff appointed at Academic Levels A to C (inclusive) and to professional staff appointed up to HEW Level 9.

  • Apprentices are paid a percentage of the first step of the HEW Level 4 rate according to years of apprenticeship and will be as follows (or in accordance with the apprentice rate percentages as set from time to time by the State Apprenticeship Board, whichever is the greater): • 1st year - 40% • 2nd year - 55% • 3rd year - 75% • 4th year - 90% Adult apprentices (that is, 21 years of age and over) will be appointed at the 4th year Apprentice rate (i.e. 90% of HEW Level 4).

  • Apprentices will be appointed to the sixth step of the HEW Level 2 classification salary rate and are eligible to increment after twelve (12) months satisfactory service.

  • Where a position is classified one HEW Level lower then the current classification, the incumbent (where there is one) will have their current HEW Level maintained until such time as they vacate the position.

  • For the avoidance of doubt this will have no impact on, or change to, incremental progression e.g. a Gippsland Transferred Employee on the second lowest salary increment prior to 10 July 2016 such as HEW Level 5 increment 7 changed to HEW Level 5 increment 2 on 10 July 2016.

  • The University will review all HEW Level 4 positions in order to determine whether or not the position can be broadbanded as HEW Level 4/5.

  • The payment of overtime, time off in lieu or travelling time, will not be approved if the employee’s classification level is higher than HEW Level 7, unless otherwise decided by the University.
