GRAS definition

GRAS means generally regarded as safe, an FDA designation that a chemical or substance added to food is considered safe by experts, and is therefore exempted from the usual Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act food additive tolerance requirements;
GRAS means generally recognized as safe.
GRAS means "Generally Recognized As Safe" regulatory clearance by US Food and Drug Administration. "HMRlignan(TM)" shall mean HORMOS' ******** (HMR, *****) platform consisting of the Patents, technology, Know-How and documentation related to said concept;

Examples of GRAS in a sentence

  • Because of the large number of sub- stances the intended use of which re- sults or may reasonably be expected to result, directly or indirectly, in their becoming a component or otherwise af- fecting the characteristics of food, it is impracticable to list all such sub- stances that are GRAS.

  • If he con- cludes that there is convincing evi- dence that the substance is GRAS, he will publish an order in the FEDERAL REGISTER listing the substance as GRAS in part 182, part 184, or part 186 of this chapter, as appropriate.

  • If he concludes that there is a lack of convincing evi- dence that the substance is GRAS or is otherwise exempt from the definition of a food additive in section 201(s) of the Act, he will publish a notice there- of in the FEDERAL REGISTER.

  • In addi- tion to the use(s) specified in the regu- lation, other uses of such an ingredient may also be GRAS.

  • Affir- mation of GRAS status shall be an- nounced in part 184 or § 186.1 of this chapter.

  • Mining means the mining, extracting, producing, handling, milling or other processing of Products.

  • Spirits means any beverage which contains alcohol obtained by distillation mixed with drinkable water and other substances in solution, including, but not limited to, brandy, rum, whisky, and gin.

  • Pipeline means any pipe, pipes, or pipelines used for the intrastate transportation or transmission of any solid, liquid, or gaseous substance, except water.

  • SITC means the Standard International Trade Classification, Revision 3 (SITC, Rev. 3), published by the United Nations in Statistical Papers, Series M, No. 34/Rev. 3 (1986);

  • Seaplane means an aeroplane capable normally of taking off from and alighting solely on water;

  • Harvesting means the killing of bluefin tuna in farms or traps.

  • SANAS means the South African National Accreditation System;

  • Dewatering means the removal of water for construction activity. It can be a discharge of appropriated surface or groundwater to dry and/or solidify a construction site. It may require Minnesota Department of Natural Resources permits to be appropriated and if contaminated may require other MPCA permits to be discharged.

  • Gravel means stone screened from river sand or quarried and washed free of clay and clay coatings. Concrete aggregate designated as Class II by the department of transportation is acceptable.

  • Cosmetology means any one and/or combination of practices generally and usually performed by and known as the occupation of beauty culturalist, cosmeticians, cosmetologists or hairdressers or any person holding him or herself out as practicing cosmetology in or upon a place or premises. Cosmetology shall include, but otherwise not be limited to, the following: embellishing, arranging, dressing, curling, waving, cleansing, beautifying, cutting, singeing, bleaching, coloring, or similar work upon the hair of any person by any means and with hands or mechanical or electrical apparatuses, devices or appliances or by use of cosmetic preparations, antiseptics, tonics, lotions, creams or otherwise, massaging, cleansing, stimulating, manipulating, exercising, beautifying or similar work, the scalp, face, neck, arms, hands, bust or upper part of the body, or manicuring, pedicuring or sculpting the nails of any person.

  • Historic building means a building, including its structural components, that is located in this state and that is either individually listed on the national register of historic places under 16 U.S.C. 470a, located in a registered historic district, and certified by the state historic preservation officer as being of historic significance to the district, or is individually listed as an historic landmark designated by a local government certified under 16 U.S.C. 470a(c).

  • Field-flattening filter means a filter used to homogenize the absorbed dose rate over the radiation field.

  • Ecology means the Washington state department of ecology.

  • TELRIC means Total Element Long-Run Incremental Cost.

  • Refinery means a facility used to produce motor fuel from crude oil, unfinished oils, natural gas liquids, or other hydrocarbons and from which motor fuel may be removed by pipeline, by marine vessel, or at a rack.

  • Commercial Operations Upon satisfaction of the following conditions, the Facility shall be considered to have achieved Commercial Operations on the Day specified in Seller's written notice described below: (i) the Acceptance Test has been passed, (ii) all generating units have passed Control System Acceptance Tests, (iii) the Transfer Date has occurred, (iv) Seller has (1) provided to Company the Required Models (as defined in Section 6(a) (Seller's Obligation to Provide Models) of Attachment B (Facility Owned by Seller)) in the form of Source Code, (2) placed the current version of the Source Code for the Required Models with the Source Code Escrow Agent as required in Section 6(b)(i)(A) (Establishment of Source Code Escrow) of Attachment B (Facility Owned by Seller), or (3) if Seller is unable to arrange for the placement of the appropriate Source Code into the Source Code Escrow account, placed the required funds with the Monetary Escrow Agent as required in Section 6(b)(ii)(A) (Establishment of Monetary Escrow) of Attachment B (Facility Owned by Seller), and (v) Seller provides Company with written notice that (aa) Seller is ready to declare the Commercial Operations Date and (bb) the Commercial Operations Date will occur within 24 hours (i.e., the next Day).

  • Surface waters means all waters of the state as defined in G.S. 143-212 except underground waters

  • Rock means the body of consolidated or partially consolidated material composed of minerals at or below the land surface. Rock includes bedrock and partially weathered rock that is hard and cannot be dug with hand tools. The upper boundary of rock is "saprolite," "soil," or the land surface.

  • Mill means the steel rolling mill or xxxxx to be erected on the works site.
