Equivocality definition

Equivocality means ambiguity and the existence of multiple, conflicting interpretations about a situation, so that participants are not certain about what questions to ask, and if the questions are posed, the situation is ill-defined to the point where a clear answer will not be forthcoming (Amernic and Craig, 1992, p. 65).
