Epidemiological definition

Epidemiological links” and “epidemiologically linked” cases will be determined through contact tracing conducted by Seattle/King County Public Health and/or the District’s COVID Lead according to Seattle/King County Public Health contact tracing guidelines and/or definitions. If Public Health and District conclusions are in conflict on whether COVID cases are epidemiologically linked, the determination by Public Health officials will take precedence. Cases are epidemiologically linked when a) the individual has had contact with one or more persons who either have/had the disease or have been exposed to a point source of infection; and b) transmission of the virus by the usual mode(s) of transmission is plausible. See Seattle/King County Public Health and/or the CDC for information on the mode(s) of transmission. A case may be considered epidemiologically linked to a laboratory-confirmed case if at least one case in the chain of transmission is laboratory confirmed.
Epidemiological means related to disease patterns, causes, spread and mechanisms of control in society.
